Dr. Schirle is an Assistant Professor of Research in the Department of Anesthesiology at Vanderbilt Health. Her primary research focuses on investigating factors that influence postoperative pain and opioid use. She is the Principal Investigator on an NIH-Funded K23 to examine pain sensitivity and genomic influences on pain and opioid use after Total Knee Replacement (TKA). Additional studies in her lab include investigating the effects of centralized pain on perioperative outcomes, the influence of opioid metabolizing genes on postoperative opioid outcomes, and detection of problematic opioid use in electronic health record data. Dr. Schirle has published and presented on various pain research, health policy and nursing topics. She is a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing
