Dr. Jorge Valdes is a Clinical Professor and Dean at the Nicole Wertheim College of Nursing & Health Sciences at Florida International University. Dr. Valdes has been a CRNA since 2002 when he graduated from the Mayo Clinic and earned his Doctorate in Nursing Practice from the University of Miami in 2012. He led his college into the spotlight by increasing its national rankings, graduates, and first-time pass rates.
Dr. Valdes has served as a Director, Treasurer, and President of the Florida Association of Nurse Anesthetists (FANA). Dr. Valdes has testified before the House and Senate in Tallahassee and is an active member of the AANA and FANA. He has served on the AANA education committee, chairperson for the diversity and inclusion committee, and Chair of the program development committee. Dr. Valdes’ research focuses on addiction and provider reentry into practice, obstetric anesthesia, and Diversity in Healthcare. He is working on his second doctorate, a PhD in education, at FIU, focusing on curriculum design. He is an esteemed fellow of the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology and a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing. He is the father of four and has completed several Ironman Triathlons.
