Luci New is an Assistant Professor and Associate Director of Clinical Education at Wake Forest University School of Medicine Department of Academic Nursing in the Nurse Anesthesia Program. She holds a DNP from Wake Forest University School of Medicine Academic Nursing, MSN from UNCC and Certificate of Anesthesia from the Carolinas Medical Center School of Nurse Anesthesia. She was introduced to the topic of second victim phenomenon during her doctoral work and has maintained ongoing commitment since that time in education, advocacy and resource to all levels of healthcare on this as well as other wellness-related threats.
She served as part of a focus group for the American Hospital Association in 2022 related to peer support programming content expertise for suicide prevention and developing an action plan for suicide reduction among healthcare organizations by incorporating suicide prevention training to the existing peer support training at Atrium Health.
Presented locally, regionally, and at state and national levels to diverse professional groups on the topics of Second Victim Phenomenon, peer support programming, burnout, substance use disorders, and other wellness related threats and is also an instructor for QPR Suicide Prevention Training.
She currently serves on several councils at Atrium Advocate Health, including the Mental Health Task Force, Mental Health Subcommittee for Cultural Change, and the Center for Well-being & Development Advisory Council. She is co-chair of the NCANA Peer Assistance and Wellness Committee and a State Peer Advisor, as well as the Education and Research Committee.
